Dr. Cohn is a general surgeon who works in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont and the CEO of HealthcareCollaboration.com, which helps doctors, nurses, hospital leaders, and board members work more interdependently to improve care in their communities. He has written numerous articles and 2 books, Better Communication for Better Care: Mastering Physician-Administration Collaboration, and Collaborate for Success! Breakthrough Strategies for Engaging Physicians, Nurses, and Hospital Executives. His work seems especially timely given the focus on the collaboration of physicians and hospitals in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the bill filed in February in the Texas Legislature on healthcare collaboration. Dr. Cohn’s February 27th post “Collaborative Strategic Planning” described a course he taught at the Harvard School of Public Health titled “Physician-Led Planning: The CEO’s Dilemma and The Physicians’ Response.” The case concerns a hospital’s efforts to survive in a competitive marketplace and recruit physicians to the community.
